ALF stands for 'Advanced Lightwire Functionals'.

Developed by Dr. Darick Nordstrom, the goal of this appliance is to improve overall systemic health through development of the bony structures in the jaw and face. The ALF appliance is a small but specific light wire that applies subtle continuous force to the teeth and skull bones. This light continuous force creates a piezoelectric effect in the body resulting in bony remodeling. As you can see below, the ALF is small and discrete. Its fits alongside the palate on the upper arch or next to the tongue on the lower arch. The ALF appliance is adjusted and shaped in our office each month guiding your arch development. The ALF is easy to wear and can be combined with your orthodontic therapy (braces) in certain situations. Please understand, a complete diagnosis of your orthopedic and orthodontic needs is completed before an ALF appliance can be fabricated. All appliances are custom made and individual. For more information on the history of ALF appliances please visit the website for the Clinical Foundation of Orthodontics and Orthopedics, www.cfoo.com.

CHOOSING ALF THERAPY WITH ORTHODONTICS AT VONDRAK DENTAL

This patient, Nicole, chose orthodontics and ALF therapy because she was chipping the edges of her front teeth with her destructive bite. She was also experiencing popping in her jaw and headaches. We discussed the need to remove pressure on her TMJs and while also correcting her crowding and arch form. ALF therapy combined with ceramic bracket orthodontics was a perfect treatment for her!

BEFORE MIDWAY FINISHED
Before treatment at Vondrak Dental. Nicole wearing her ALF appliance and brackets midcourse treatment at Vondrak Dental. Notice how her front teeth are tipped in towards her palate. Niclole’s finished arch form! No headaches and NO popping jaw joints!
Thank you for choosing Vondrak Dental Nicole! You have a beautiful healthy smile!

BEFORE MIDWAY FINISHED
Beginning of Treatment Midcourse: look how the upper arch is becoming a round "horseshoe" shape. This shape allows proper positioning of the lower jaw (the mandible) and protecting the TMJs from pain and pressure. ALF treatment complete! A beautiful arch and a few more months in brackets only!
